What you will learn:

​

  • Work preparation training (CV writing, interview techniques, job search and vital interpersonal skills)

  • Develop your maths and English skills

  • Four weeks of on-site work experience with a local employer

  • Knowledge of relevant industries (e.g. fire & security) and the opportunities available

  • Health and safety knowledge

  • Taster sessions in our workshops to prepare you for your work experience

  • Essential tool skills coached both on-site and in our dedicated training centres

Although we specialise in the Fire and Security engineering sector, we will provide you with the experience and skills to help you apply for any type of work. By completing a Traineeship programme, you will have demonstrated a commitment to developing yourself and a willingness to work effectively with others, which prospective employers will well receive.

Subjects covered

Employability

Employability skills are composed of core skills and competencies, personal attributes and having an awareness of the labour market. Some of the subjects you will be taught include:

  • CV writing

  •  Interview Skills

  • Communication

  • Rights and Responsibilities

 

Functional Skills

Learners on the traineeship will either complete Level 1 or 2 in Maths or English unless they are exempt due to prior learning. This will be based on initial assessments and the learners PLR. Functional Skills are qualifications designed to help both young people and adults develop their essential Maths, English and ICT skills in order to apply them in employment and everyday life. They are widely accepted as an alternative to GCSE.

Essential Digital Skills

EDS are qualifications that are mapped to national standards for digital literacy. These qualifications are designed to meet digital knowledge gaps and provide vital skills, such as:

  • Using devices and handling information

  • Creating and editing

  • Communicating

  • Transacting

  • Being safe and responsible online

If you achieve a Level 1 on your initial assessment, then it may be that you are exempt as a result.

 

Work Placement 

The work placement on the traineeship is for 90 hours over a three-week period. Work placements offer the perfect opportunity to gain work experience whilst learning and a work placement on your CV can boost your chances of getting hired. You get the chance to work in a team and get clued up as it gives you a taste for the job. It also gives you an insight into how the industry is working and developing and allows you to make a meaningful decision on whether the sector is right for you.
